GREY LAGS REMSEN VICTORY Outstays Knobbie in a Game Finish Hendrie First, but Is Disqualified. JAMAICA. N. Y., October 6. S. C. Hildreihs expensive colt Grey Lag won the Remsen Handicap, feature of todays racing program at Jamaica, but it was only by a head that the Hildreth colt could beat Knobbie. Care Free was the early pacemaker, but she tired iu the last eighth and left Grey Lag and Knobbie to fight it out. Knobble was off in front, but Mooney elected to take him back and save1 him to the stretch. He brought the Wrack colt in next to the rail at the stretch bend, but just failed to get up at the finish. Osgood got tlie decision in the third race by a nose from Prince of Como. The winner was shuffled back at the stnrt. but came fast when clear in the stretch and got up in the last strides. Prince of Como began in front and held a long lead when coining into the stretch, but tired in the last eighth. Turf came from far back in the stretch to beat Liberty Girl, which hail been a forward contender, for third money. L. T. Bauer bid Osgood up to ,400, but he was retained by his owner. The first disqualification of the meeting came in the second race when Hendrie, which outfinished the odds-on favorite, Nightstick, was placed last. Buxton on Hendrie and Kummer on Nightstick engaged iu a bumping match all through the stretch, but as Buxton was the first one to offend his mount was disqualified. Nightstick set the pace, but tired In the final eighth. Hendrie came fast through the stretch and got up to finish first in the closing strides. The talent went to P. J. Lavins Day Lilly like it was all over in the first race, an allowance dash for two-year-olds, but the best Day Lilly could do was second, the winner, Squaw Man, coming from L. Waterburys stable. Squaw Mail had few followers, but following Ballynew and Day Lilly until fifty yards out, came out to beat the odds-on favorite by a half length. Ballynew lasted to take third place. B. A. Lane claimed Frederick the Great out of the third race for ,905.
