V FINAL DAY AT JAMAICA NEW YORK, N. Y., October 15.-Good weather, good racing and a lur?e crowd were contributing factors to a most successful conclusion of the sport at Jamaica today. While the talent failed to pick the winners, the second choices in most instances accounted for the races. In the feature race, an overnight handicap, Tom McTaggart proved the winner. . The favorite was Enfilade, but she was, the victim of bad racing luck throughout. She was knocked back at the half mile post when Ensor had her in close quarters and she never recovered her stride. Tom McTaggart led the entire way, closely pressed In the early part by Leading Star. He shook off the Sweep colt, however, in the stretch and had enough in reserve to withstand the determined bid of the lightly-weighted Red Red Rose, which finished second. The latter saved ground entering the straightaway and came fast-in the last fifty yards. The incompetent riding of Babin- proved costly to the backers of Pastoral Swain in the fifth race. After tjit; son of Colin had taken the lead from Ballet Dancer II. on his own courage, Babin let the big colts head down an eighth out and was of no assistance to him when Mooney, on Ballet Dancer II., challenged. With riders reversed, Pastoral Swnin would have had easy sailing. The followers of Jockey Ensor had things their own way In the final race, when he. got off to a flying start with J. Sanfords filly Chateau Thierry and Increased his lead at every pest until he had a margin of seven lengths at the finish. Summit the Ultimus Torpenhow filly which cost Frederick Johnson 5,000 as a yearling, was second. It was the first essay for Summit, which was backed almost to" the exclusion of the others. She ran a bit green. While she had seant chance to defeat Chateau TJerry, she showed good staying qualities by getting up in the last stride to best Hold Up for second money. Omer K. was the heavily supported youngster for the opening dash, but he failed to finish lu the money. Day Lilly was the winner. The second race brought a close finish between Bcaumarais and Favour, the former getting up in the last strides to win by a head. The Roc was the choice, but the Celt Kelding tired after leading for a half mile. Dloscoride, heavily backed in this race, burst a blood vessel on the backstretch. He was noticed to slow up quickly, but continued to run for a half mile when he fell dead. Albert A. was most fancied In the third race and was backed heavily near post time. After following the early pace or Titanium under restraint, jockey Ensor brought the Ballot gelding into n big lend coming Into the stretch and he,, appeared a winner fifty yards out, but Sunnyland. which had been his closest attendant during the stretch run challenged and got up to defeat the favorite a Uad i tlie last twenty yards,
