EMPIRE CITY OPENS TODAY Inaugural Program One of Best Ever Provided at Hilltop Course. NEW YORK. N. Y., October 15. Secretary Victor Schnnmburg announced yesterday that everything was ready for the Empire City meeting which will be ushered in next Saturday. vThe meeting will continue until October ,30 and will mark the elqse of the most successful years racing oh the. metropolitan turf- in the last decade. There is no more popular track on the circuit than the Hilltop course aiid larger fields and better racing is proinj-ised; cn account of the seasons close in Canada, which will furnish "a large number of racers fitted to meet the condition book of the meeting. The program which Secretary Schautnburg has framed is the sort that will bring out good fields. There are, in all, ten stake features beginning With the Scarsdale Handicap, for a mile, on the opening day. This race was framed to bring the best of the handicap division into competition, and that is just what it has done. The overnight accept-: ances Include Cirrus, Sennings Park, Dunboyne, Thunderstorm, Lady Gertrude, Krewer nnd Croiri-well. Here is a field that should furnish a brilliant contest from, "end to end." Cirrus will probably rule favorite, but will find the toughest kind of opposition, particularly from Sennings Park, now at the top of his form.
