POITREL A WONDERFUL RACE HORSE. The Melbourne Cup was run at the Flcmington course, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Tuesday, November 2, in ideal weather and before an estimated record attendance of 120,000 people. In winning the race, under top weight of 140 pounds, Poitrol proved himself to be the best horse in Australia and his fine performance aroused tremendous enthusiasm among the spectators. The race summary is: The Melbourne Cup, a handicap sweepstakes of 50 each, with 5,000 added and a trophy value of 50; Two miles. W. and F. Moses Poitrcl. ch. h, 6, by St. Al-Wyne Poinard. 140 pounds, first; W. M. Keogh and E. Moses Erasmus, hr. c, 3, 98 pounds, second: S. H. Blackwells Queen Comedy, blk in,, 5, i8 pounds, third.
