This city is beginning to take on a real racing atmosphere now, every train from the nortli and east bringing its quota of turf people, including owners, trainers, jockeys, and followers of the sport. Horses have been coming in rapidly for several days, and as fast as they are unloaded the express cars are sent back to Kentucky and Maryland to be filled again with thoroughbreds. Both the Fair Grounds and Jefferson Park presented busy scenes this morning, there being an unusually large number of horses out for gallops. The going was a bit soft at the two tracks, but it will be in excellent condition for fast work-outs for tomorrow, as the weather, which was much colder than usual here yesterday, moderated considerably today. H. Neu-steters horses are in from Louisville this morning. Before leaving the Falls City, Neusteter acquired Serbian at private sale from Gallaher Bros. Advice was received here today to the effect that R. L. Bakers stable, including the double cup winner, Pif Jr., left Louisville last night and is due liere tonight. The Baker horses will take quarters at the Fair Grounds. Arrivals among the jockeys included Earl Pool, who will ride for R. L. Baker; H. Phillips, patrol judge on the Kentucky racing circuit, was another arrival from that city. Frank is a member of the eastern delegation that got iu today. The first of the Kentucky race specials brought eight carloads of horses, including the consignments of E. R. Bradley, C. W-. Clark, J.- McPher-j50fl,-J-J.nn,J.Krn,- andTtTL. Rogers.
