WINNING TWO YEAR OLD HISTOR Y TEN LEADERS OF SIXTEEN YEARS OF RACING COLIN COLINTHE THE LARGEST MONEY EARNER PERFORMANCES PERFORMANCESOF OF THE LEADERS FROM 1905 TO 1920 Grouping the names of the ten leading moneywinning twoyearolds of each year from 1003 to 1920 epitomizes much of the racing glory of those years The winners of the greatest sums were not always the best racers of their age and years nor even are the best twoyearolds always the Ixst threeyearolds of their succeeding years However of the greatest money winners Colin in 1907 Sir Martin in 1008 Sweep in 1909 Novelty in 19JO Old Rosebud in 1913 Regret in ll 14 Campfire in 1010 Sun Briar in 1017 and Man o War in 1010 were champions of their resi ective years Highclass young horses they were Colin and Man o War being two of the best seen here or in any other land landBurgomaster Burgomaster was probably best in 1905 but the partisans of Mohawk II claimed tlfat honor for the good San ford colt In 1906 Electioneer won the big money but Salviderc was the real champion of that year even though such swells as Ballot and Peter Pan have to be taken into account He was beaten by Fountainbluc in his first race but after that unlucky start in racing was invincible and was a won ¬ derfully good twoyrarold but was a gelding It results that he is forgotten now while Ballot and Peter Pan still live in their admirable sons and daughters daughtersBallot Ballot was poor in 1011 and while Worth was the chief money winner and a good colt it is quite probable The Manager was his master They never met so the matter was not tested Helios and Hawthorn divided honors in 191 but Helios led in money won Both were exceedingly fast but lacking in stamina Leochares was their nearest rival ami is still playing an honorable part in our racing Some racingSome remarkably fast twoyearolds were out in 1018 Of these Eternal won high fame and the most money but taking the circumstances of their respective carvers into consideration Billy
