LATEST LOUISVILLE NEWS Louis Tauber Makes Hurried Trip from Ross Farm Car Shortage Delays Horses LOUISVILLE Ky April 2 Although today was the regular work day for the most of the Ken ¬ tucky Derby eligibles here their trainqrs were forced to alter their schedule a bit because of the poor condition of botli the local tracks The courses dried out rapidly during the day however and the Derby candidates will bo given trials tomorrow morning according to present plans There were plenty other horses out for exercise this morning Trainer C 0 Van Meter indulged Coyne and Brother Itntcli his Derby pair in a brisk gallop and they will be given a good work ¬ out tomorrow tomorrowLouis Louis Tauber who was recently appointed trainer of the Kentucky division of Commander J K L Boss stable arrived here yesterday after spending two weeks at his employers breeding farm in Maryland lie came on a business mission and returned to Maryland tonight tonightTrainer Trainer Ooorge V Harms had the firing irons applied yesterday to 0 W Clarks Tom Hare Jr a twoyearold halfbrother to Jack Hare Jr The youngster went amiss at New Orleans during the winter and has shown soreness since his arrival here Miio Shields was an arrival from his home in Nebraska where he spent a vacation since the close of the New Orleans season George Molesworth former jockey and now trainer for one section of the George J Long stable came in today The horses which lie trained throughout the winter are at New Orleans under the care of John 0 Ferriss and are scheduled to leave there within the next day or so soAdvices Advices received from the Crescent city today were to the effect that a shortage of express horse cars is holding many thoroughbreds there which are intended for Kentucky racing At least six carloads are being delayed but it is hoped that conditions will be remedied within the near future as the horse cars which brought the Cuban con ¬ tingent here have been sent to New Orleans OrleansII II I Williams announced ttiday that lie intends to retire from the training end of racing and will in the future devote most of his time to the breed ¬ ing of thoroughbreds on the ranch owned by him ¬ self and his brother Pete in Oklahoma The latter will be intrusted with the training of all of the horses in active racing The Williams rancli has three sires Hilarious Domitatt and Iron Cross II on it and thirtyfive brood mares maresPete Pete Williams plans to take several mares tc Cuba next winter and establish a branch of the Williams Brothers stud on the island
