PROGRESS OF THE BETTS TAX BILL ALBANY N Y April 2 Present indications are that the Hetts bill will not be amended to collect the tax on the gate receipts instead of the gross nceips as has been suggested The proposed amendment does net find favor because it would mean less revenue to the state The 5 per cent tax under the old Percy Grey law was levied upon the gross receipts Racing associations have not directly protsted against the Petts bill at any time although it has been suggested that 12 per cent was too high a tax The bill comes up for third reading in the assembly next week
