STEEPLECHASE NOMINATIONS Belmont Park Jumping Features Fill Well Brook Handicap Gets 72 Entries NEW YOUK X Y April 2 The sport of steeplechasing is due for a genuine revival this season if the number and quality of the nomina ¬ tions secured by the AVestehestcr Racing Associa ¬ tion for the five stakes which closed on Monday last may he taken as a guide Every one of them was patronized to n greater extent than in 1920 and in the case of the Brook Handicap Steeple ¬ chase 10000 added the Increase was almost 50 per cent the ratio being 72 to 10 A total of 242 nominations were made as against 145 in 1920 1920Joseph Joseph K AVidener is the largest nominator for the Brook his eight representatives including llou tlini Joyful Skibliereen Doublet Annenis and Northward the latter a brother to the illfated Norse King Tile Grccntrce Stable has five in ¬ cluding Jhe tried performers Flare and Kol Craig witli a potential champion in the splendid looking Leviathan by Whisk Broom II Kal Parr has all of his best ones engaged including Royal Arch Esquimau Rullseye and Ticket The good filly Violet Tip by Fair Play is his most recent rcoruit to the steeplechasing sport Mrs F A Clark has five in it among them Elysiari Minata and Toppy Nix Walter M Jeffords has the fine jumper Barklie while Mrs Jeffords names the speedy Kerciisky Samuel Willets has also named his fine young mare Blue Pearl by Moharib which was one of the sensations of the National Horse Show last autumn where he refused SS000 for her herJoseph Joseph F Flanagan Jr has his favorite Lytle in each of the features and the same is true of Mrs G W Loft whose Swcepment showed fine form in Maryland last fall The colors of Edward M Weld will he earned by Highland Light and Car ¬ pet Sweeper the last named a smashing looker and a good performer on the flat Foxhall P Keenes trio are Subahdar a fUst gelding by Delhi Master ¬ ful and Twentyone a twclve yearold by Voter Robert I Gerry has named Belvoir and James W McClelland enters The Trout a gelding which gave gieat promise at one time on the flat Another newcomer is Peccant t brother to Priscillian named by James W Itenn Valspar Earlocker and Jack Pryor are Joseph K Davis trio of reliables while George D Widen or will depend upon the imported gelding Kwohoshec KwohoshecOf Of interest in the Grand National which has received thirtyfive entries as against twentytwo is Harry Savage Pages fifteenyearold gelding Gold Plate This is perhaps the oldest jumper in training in the country iind reports from Warren ton Va say the old fellow is training well The threemile course over which this race is run should suit him perfectly The International at about two miles received fortyfive entries as against twentynine last year while the Meadow Brook has fortythree or eighteen more than In 1920 The New York has a total of fortyseven compared to thirty a twelvemonth ago agoIt It looks as if the new course at Bclmont would have sport worthy of it during both the meetings of the Westchester Racing Association There is no more popular sport for a great niass of the racing public than these contests through the field
