TREMENDOUS FRENCH MUTUEL TAKE Totalizator betting in France has increased to such an extent during the last eighteen months that the machines at the more important meetings are incapable of dealing with the tremendous turn ¬ over The Paris correspondent of a London paper writes that official figures showed last years in ¬ vestments aggregated 241250000 The French government now deducts 11 per cent and conse ¬ quently its share was 26537500 Of that sum 2500000 will be devoted to the devastated regions 2500000 to agricultural instruction and 5200000 to public charities With the totalizator such a splendid source of revenue there is said to be no likelihood of tiie French government sanctioning any other form of betting but a tremendous amount of illegal bookmaking takes place
