WAGERING ON RACES OF HEATS The newly instituted heat racing at Tijuana brought perplexity to people away froni the track that was quite amusing to oldtimers who began their acquaintance with the affairs of the turf when races of heats were not infrequent When Chicago racing flourished they were common enough and to this day the famous and lamented Washing ¬ ton Park track holds the record for the fastest race ever ran at mile heats this being made when Guido beat Allan Bane there July 11 1891 in 141 Vi and 141 Then when one had a fancy for a horse in such a race and backed him before the race he took his ticket at whatever the price may have been serene in the knowledge that that price would not le affected by whatever might happen in the heats following the first The same prin ¬ ciple holds good today and those away from the track who wager on Tijuana heat races do so at the prices of the first exclusively They are not in the least concerned in the track prices of the second heat or the third heat if there is a third heat
