SARATOGAS ANNUAL SALES Greatest Breeders of Thoroughbreds and Pro ¬ duce of Famous Sires Will Be Represented SARATOGA SPRINGS N Y June 14 The sales of the thoroughbred yearlings from the great stock farms of Now York New Jersey Maryland Vir ¬ ginia Kentucky Tennessee and California the pro ¬ prietors of which breed for the public market will be an appealing feature of the Saratoga August meeting this year as they have been since the thoroughbred yearling sales business was brought to Saratoga Springs three or four years ago by K J Tranter TranterThe The bringing of tljo sales to Saratoga was the response of the FasigTipton Company the oldest sales organization in the country to the repeatedly expressed wisli of producers of yearlings and buyers alike Producers wanted the sales concentrated hore because of the excellence of Saratogas climate and the facilities provided for taking care of the young stock between the time of their arrival from the home farms and the days fixed for their sale saleBuyers Buyers wished it because Saratoga is an un ¬ commonly pleasant place in which to spend the month of August and by coming here and inspect ¬ ing the budding racing stock about to be offered at the auction block in pleasant surroundings and at their leisure they could better determine what they were about to put their money up for For the accommodation of the yearlings 3Ur Tranter constructed a group of roomy stables each standing alone and accessible to the air and the sun and a sales pavilion which for the completeness of its appointments is not matched anywhere in the United States The sales pavilion and the stables are only a few minutes walk from the Saratoga Associations beautiful course courseSALES SALES ARE WELL ATTENDED ATTENDEDFor For three years the widely advertised August sales of yearlings that have made Saratoga the Newmarket of America have brought this way buyers from all parts of the North American con ¬ tinent who rarely come to racing save when there ire sales accompaniments The sales are held in the afternoon before and after the racing and at night under the glare of arc lights The night sessions have attained the dignity of social func ¬ tions tionsMr Mr Tranter who booked his sales in February and March is of the opinion that prices approxi ¬ mating those of the year before last and consid ¬ erably bettor than the average of last year will be realized for the yearlings that will go under the hammer this coming August One of the reasons he his for expecting big prices is that the rapid ex ¬ pansion of racing which lias been marked by the institution of a 40000 Futurity by the Maryland Jockey Club and the bringing into existence by the Kentucky Jockey Club of the 3 000 Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes the laislng of the values of the Futurity and the Belmont Stake which are renewed annually at lielmont Iaik by the West Chester Racing Association and a uniform bettering of minor stake and purse values throughout the Unftid Statos Canada and Cuba has created a big demand for young thoroughbreds Another is that net so many yearlings will be offered as formerly Some horsemen who formerly bred for public sales ro disposing of their stock privately Others have taken up racing as an incident to production Those List have planned to campaign under their own silks the produce of their thoroughbred
