DECLINE OF A 31000 YEARLING YEARLINGLONDON LONDON England May 27 An interesting win ¬ ner at Down Royal on May 21 was Kockroi which won the New Abbey Plate Odds of 5 to 4 were laid on Ilockroi which won by threequarters of a length from eight others othersThis This is the colt by Prince Palatine Itork Garden for which Sir II Cunliffe Owen paid 31000 at the Newmarket sales of July 191 In his second race last season Uockroi was beaten by Monarch only in the Spring Two YearOld Stakes He then appeared as though he would justify the high price paid for him Before the end of the season he was running unplaced in a much lower class In November overtures were made to buy Kockrpi to go to Spain but he would not pass the veterinary surgeon sound He had become slightly touched in his wind Sir H Cunliffe Owen put him in the December sales to be sold without engagements and he mad 270 which amount might settle the account for the forfeits in connection with his aban ¬ doned engagements He is a good example of the lottery of buying yearlings Yet the previous year the same owner in the yearling sales had picked out Orpheus and Mount Koyal which won the Goodwood Cup last year
