57500 YEARLINGS DEBUT Westward Ho No Wonder Though of Great Size and Striding Power LONDON England May 27 The fact that West ¬ ward Ho the sensational 57500 yearling of 1910 was making his first appearance took a large num ¬ ber of people to Lingfield May 20 Sceptre of course held the yearling price record until the son of Suynfcrd and Blue Tit was sold at Doncaster eighteen months ago It was considered that the limit had then been reached but his purchaser Lord Glanely exceeded this colossal figure by giv ¬ ing a good many thousands more for Westward Hos half brother by The Tetrarch at Doncastor last year The money which Lord Glanely spent in purchasing yearlings at Doncaster last September had been realized by the gales of some of his hoises in training Mich as Scatwell Starshot and Dominion all of which went abroad abroadWestward Westward Ho last year suffered from hock trouble At Lingfield one of them bore traces of excessive dressing He is a fine upstanding dark broxvn colt Several critics even in his yearling days regarded him as built en too massive lines A glance at him quickly explains why his appear ¬ ance had been so delayed and his hocks may per ¬ haps prevent a long turf career careerHurry Hurry On made his first appearance in the same race the Beacon ThreeYearOld Maiden Plate of 1000 run over one mile Hurry On went through hi 4 threeyearold season undefeated and ended up by winning the St Loger At the moment it looks long odds against Westward Ho accomplishing such a feat Westward Ho was practically the only hor e in the field which was backed When half the journey had been covered Smith gave him his head and he shot away from his fields as though the others were standing Perhaps if he goes on well we may see him competing in the St Leger
