BELMONTS MOTLEY RESULTS Horses That Should Have Won Fail Only One Favorite Wins Hyde Park Handicap Brings Out OutBest Best Field and Yellow Hand HandIs Is the Winner NEW YORK N Y June 14 When the lower grade horse or human meets in competition motley lesults are inevitable The Belmont Park horses in Tuesday afternoons racing were not of good character and motley results came out of it all The horses that should have won refused to do so five favorites fell in a row to join the heap of thousands that have gone before One survived Mlrslon Bells The racing was good to view though High grade horses among tho rag tag and liobliil of cquinity unbalance things So the competition was keen enough There were three head finishes juid two more of a length or loss Some of the racing clusters in front were animated and keen speed battles resulted A sharp northwest wind impeded the horses in the rear where they were the freshest and could meet it best It helped the same horse in the stretch where most of their kind needed help helpThere There were some sharp incidents during the after ¬ noon Donnacona lost a winning race through his own error He was in the best value event of the day the Hyde Park Handicap at a mile and n sixteenth for derelicts of tin meeting meetingDonniicona Donniicona is moody in these days of ours lie proppedat the startand cot away a dozen lengths behind Hie other five in the field He raceo buoyantly when once in motion but was half a ficnrb of lengths in the rear after half of the ground had been covered Then Donnacoua came fast and landed fourth beaten about a length nml a quarter quarterThe The Hyde Park got out the only field of any quality during the afternoon Dr Clark Yellow Hand and La Rablce were the best of six and the factors Dr Clark was the public choice with rharp support for both the others Yellow Hand won in a race rim to suit him The westrn sprinter Courtship settled Dr Clark by sprinting in front with him a fast threequarters in 111 The pair were at it hammer and tongs until well around the stretch turn where Yellow Hand outside and alert came to and headed them Ln Rablee had been hedged in She followed Yellow Hand through and when he was jauntily winning she closed and forced him to do his best to win by a neck Dr Clark was third a length away He just lasted to beat the flying Doanacona a mere head It was a nice finish finishThere There was a crowd of some 7000 to see the races the course was as fast as usual and oily the high wind was against extreme speed which however was far above the favorite for the horses which perfoimed perfoimedUNCANNY UNCANNY DOINGS IN FIRST RACE RACER R T Wilsons Kirtle won the opening race in which apprentice nonwinning riders were put upon twoyearolds to race at fiveeighths on the straight course There were some uncanny doings before the affray was over Dovesroost away in front interfered with every horse that didnt fall 1inler the meandering of Friars Rush Both raced like drunken sailors Dovesroost got into conten ¬ tion and finishing second was disqualified Friars Rush escnpod official notice because of his delayed arrival Kirtle ran straight enough to win by her length with Dovesroost a neck before Wreckless two lengths before Veiled Colleen on which Mas T Klein lid everything but fall off Whips and sienso were out during the scrap for such it was wasTinre Tinre does not seem much reason for such races on the straight course The rails on the main track horse action and apprentice notion of rid ¬ ing are all in favor of tho circular way as the way for coming race riders to become race winners winnersThe The second race precipitated as dreary a piece of horse racing as could have Jieen built It met Dartmoor from the Whitney Stable and Benning lon the 12000 eolt which was well sold and rather resents in performance his unsparcd finan ¬ cial figure James Rowe declared before the race that he was no account He was right Yet for the sake of the respected blue and brown Dirtmoor was choice The race was at a mile for threeyearolds which had never won 000 It was known as a good one The pair raced together to the stietch whore Dartmoor tried to bear iut and was checked When Ensor called on Ben nington he took the load and in a driving finish tired and swerved out himself but won by a length Jn 138 138SIREN SIREN MAIDS FAST FINISH FINISHThe The third race at throequarters of a mile on the main track furnished a piece of pretty action at its end The occasional Siren Maid nn outsider won it Cum Sab and Major Parke stayed away Fort Churchill was chosen to win He never got a nodding acquaintance in the first flight The Boy away fast Bine Bell and Beckna were fight ¬ ing out the result when Siren Maid came sailing along in the tracks center like a fast cutter under full canvas The winds cut helped the mare along anil die got up in the last three strides to catch and beat Beckna which had got his head in front of The Boy Fort Churchill arrived later and was fjiirth nearly clear of that veteran of many a tip liatle MiunlH Jumbo JumboThe The fifth race rather staggered that part of the wlsilom of the turf which looked on It was also at a mile and a sixteenth out of the short chute and got out eight candidates for claims The pred ¬ atory Whisk wildly respected in fiscal calcula ¬ tions was the surprising winner lie had been racing respectably with better horses at shorter distances and was not seriously considered us a factor in a race of this distance Paddy Whack was the favorite a short one heavily cared for by his owner just before post time Sir Graf ton was considered to be likely to beat him Paddy Whack a slow beginner left tiie starting post slower than usual Whisk took the lead and won all the way under alert handling by Scliuttlngcr who had to ride him out to boat the fastcoming Sir Grafton a head in a goodlooking finish Crystal Ford and Paddy Whack wen four lengths away lapped and hard driven to get up upThe The only successful favorite of the afternoon scored in the final dash for twoyearold maiden iillies on the fiveeighths straight course The California lilly Mission Bells led her horses home by five lengths She made all the running Hu ¬ manitarian was second after a hard drive with Evil Confusion in new colors of which much was expected never got into competition competitionLouis Louis Garth representing the Oak Ridge Stable sold the tuoycarold filly Fair Virginia to Wil ¬ liam Shcedy ShcedyGeorge George W Carpenter a New Yorker and a recruit to racing made his entrance into the turf compe ¬ tition in the final race with Confusion recently bought from J E Madden as his color bearer Mr Carpenter is planning to buy more horses S L Lawler will train them
