CHO CHO AGAIN VICTRESS Takes the Latonia Feature Race With Great Ease. r- - t u Veteran Dodge Takes a Purse and Flags Runs Greatly Below His True Form Favorites Win. LATONIA, K, September S. Each race of Cho Chos brings out more forcibly the fact that she must.be rated with the crack sprinters of the West and her successful race this afternoon, when she accounted for the ,700 feature dash, contested b3" some highly regarded sprinters, was accomplished, in superior fashion. The time of the race, 1:12, was excellent considering the lack of springiness in the tracks soil. A faBt and even pace marked her race, for in command from practically the start, she ran the first quarter in 23and and the half mile in 47M. It had her early follower, Colonel Baker, in distress on .-the stretch turn and she found little difficulty in withstanding the challenge of the resolutely .finishing Adonis. Colonel Baker, although tiring steadily, had Just enough left to outstay Brunswick for the shorter portion of the purse. Darjeeling was expected to give the winner strong contention, but was never prominent at any time in the race. He will probably do better presently. The inexperienced Studer, riding Marcella Boy, fell off just before reaching tiie stretch turn, but suffered no injury. The three-quarters claiming race had a stake caliber aspect with such former doughty ones as Flags, Dodge. By Colly .-and others making the contest. It furnished a spirited race, with Dodge the victor over A. N. Akin, and Flags following. The compactuess of the field and inability on the part of Porretto accounted for By Golly failing to rajwv in better fashion, as be never had an oppor-rtmity,f6 extend himself- on account of being in close quarters. Dodge was luck3 in finding a clear course in the stretch and had little difficulty racing by A. N. Akin in the last sixteenth. Flags had no mishaps, ran a disgraceful race for liim. and was tiring at the end. Rapid Day ran a good race here, for he was almost left and displayed fine speed in racing into a contending position, but tired from his early exertions. WEATHER OF SUMMER-LIKE BRAND. Weather of a midsummer brand was here this af ternoon, and the track showed considerable , improvement; bone dry, but still a trifle dull. .It is, however, in its present condition an excellent racing strip, particularly suited to horses with tender underpinning. The attendance was up to the best standard of week days, and the excellent racing offering resulted in spirited elashings .thoroughly enjoyed by the big throng. Betting activities were increased as a result of the good program. The mile and a sixteenth purse was an easy affair for the favorite, Westwood, which won as easily as his rider elected, the outsider, Wickford, finishing in second place, and Easteside third. Considerable speculation was centered on Brotherly Love, but he ran sluggishly and could never shake United Verde off. Another disappointing one, that raced below his previous good form. Royal Duck, which showed consistent form at the last Saratoga meeting, scored at the first asking here when he accounted for the purse in the second race, in which be was given confident backing. He had to be ridden hard, however, near the end. when Kingfisher was pressing him sharply. Pit landed in third place. The initial dash brought about an exciting finish with Buckingham the winner, after a hard drive from Salamander and Red Wingfield. The trio were on even terms a sixteenth out and came to the finish under hard pressure, their riders driving to their utmost. J. C. STONE DEFEAT HARD JOLT. The sixth race, in which some ordinary ones met, resulted in a hard jolt for the favorite backers by tlie failure of J. C. Stone. Tool held him under a hard pull, choked him into exhaustion during the. first three-quarters and, when he called on him. he was completely done. This left Gourmand and Wave to fight it out, the former winning. The closing dash was taken by Kay Spences War Spirit, making the fourth favorite to win during the afternoon. The Baker-owned Fair Orient, with Pool aboard, proved a disappointing combination and, like J. C. Stone in the preceding race, cost tho backers extensively. Jockey J. Howard was suspended for five days for rough riding on Braedalbane in the sixth race j-esterday. The stewards, not being satisfied with the ride of jockey D. Connelly on Marvin May in the fifth race 3esterday, had an interview with him today. He contended he had no opportunit3 to get away well at the start, but this was denied by starter Dade, and he pleaded that he had bet on the horse, but declined to state where or with whom he made the bet. His explanation of the ride not being a satisfactory one, and upon his refusal to answer questions put to him by the stewards, he was suspended indefinite-. Ka3 Spence received a telegram today from Mont-fort Jones to send only Scobie East to ride in the Futurity, Garner not being needed.
