DAY OF THRILLING SPOlti i - : n Spectators at Havre de Grace Witness Sensational Racing. Caretaker, Camouflage and Old Sinner Victorious, but "? Only by Inches. HAVRE DE GRACE, Md., September 30. Tnrill-ing and sensational racing marked the sport at the Harford County track this afternoon. The program lacked a special feature, but the close. finishes in a majority of the races made up for tha absence of the better grade of racers. The most pretentious offering was the five and a half . furlong dash, for two-year-old, run as the fifth race. It proved to be a sparkling exhibition. Eight youngsters of fair class clashed with Misdeal,, tlie public choice. The Sir Wilfrid filly was :riddenby Coltiletti and flattered her backers by setting a fast pace to the stretch. There she tired ard the real struggle began. When the fire of battle cleared Caretaker was home .first by a head, with Fannie Bean second only a nose ahead of Bountiful. Tlie latter was used up racing with Misdeal, but for which sho might have won. Even more sensational and thrilling was the finish of the fourth race, the first six horses racing through the final eighth almost in perfect align - . ment. Again in the third and sixth races-the crowd was on its feet cheering wildly as Camouflage -and Jean Bullant were respectively returned winners by small margins after hard and gamely fought contests. . W. J. Salmons Trevelyan, ridden by J. Butwell, accounted for the- three-quarter mile dash, for maiden two-year-olds, that began, the afternoons entertainment. The winner followed "the leaders close up until entering the stretch, where he. moved up with a rush, passed Alex H. and drew away into a safe lead in the last sixteenth. Rocket, from the stable of H. P. Whitney, came fast after dropping back; on the far turn and .boot the pacemaker for second place by the smallest of margins; STEEPLECHASE TO LYTLE. .T. F. Flanagan Jr.s good jumper -Lytle won the race through the field. He had no easy ..tinte of it and was forced to a hard drive to outstay Overmatch. Jim Coffroth was in the lead when he fell at the thirteenth jump. .Lytle had been Jh close pursuit of the leader and after he fell fought it out with Overmatch with the above-mentioned result.
