j ; • i i • FAST SOUTH AMERICAN MARK Buen Ojo, in Montevideo, Credited With One and Three-Quarters Miles in 2:52%. South American watches must be jumping now-I adays. At Montevideo last month the big Municipal Handicap of 30,000 pesos, at one mile and three-quarters, fell to Buen Ojo, a five-year-old, by Craganour, the Epsom Derby winner of 1913, for which he was disqualified in favor of Aboyeur. Buen Ojos time for the distance is reported by Le Jockey of Buenos Aires as 2:52%, which is three and one-fifth seconds faster than the English mark for the distance, Pommerns 2:55%, and four sec-; onds faster than the American record of Exterminator. 2:56%, and six and three-fifths seconds better than Ducky Eves 2:59 in New Zealand, the Aus-I tralasian best. Speed is speed and time time every-- where. Neither is geographical, but it really seems as if the Montevidean record is too fast for equina accomplishment, though Buen Ojo Is said to be remarkably fast and carried but 105 pounds.
