TIJUANAS SUCCESSFUL MEETING OVER HALF MILLION DOLLARS DISTRIBUTED DURING 130 DAYS OF RACING C B IRWIN LARGEST WIN ¬ NER HUNTAMER STAR OF THE SADDLE Over a half million dollars was distributed in stakes and purses by the Tijuana Jockey Club during the long winter meeting which began at the Mexican track on November 24 1921 and ended April 23 1922 A total of 90G races were run during the 139 days and the daily average money distributions amounted to 4545 a good figure for a meeting of such duration It was not only the greatest meeting numerically but the most successful from every standpoint in the history of the border Free from passport restrictions and other disturbances that were encountered in former years the Tijuana meeting just closed moved along serenely gaining in popularity as it progressed with the result that all pre ¬ vious attendance records were shattered The great array of stake races headed by the 20000 Coffroth Handicap attracted to the Mexican course a better grade of horses than in former years and some fine racing was witnessed C B Irwin again found the Tijuana track a fertile field for a winter campaign and emerged successful for the third year in succession as the largest money winner of the meeting His horses raced often and won often accounting for fiftyone races and 41SCO a fine record for any mans stable J A Parson even won more races the meeting in fact one of the outstanding features of it was the brilliant riding of jockqy Huntamer who is now slowly recovering from injuries received in a fall that almost resulted fatally Huntamer rode 148 winners and holds not only the leadership of the Tijuana jockeys but heads the list of the thirty leaders for the current year T Wilson was another rider that rode exceptionally well at Tijuana He rode ninetyseven winners C Studer was also riding quite successfully when the same accident that resulted so seriously for Hun ¬ tamer put him on the ground for an indefi ¬ nite period
