FORFEIT PUBLICATION LEGAL LEGALRecently Recently in England the status of racing forfeit debts was decided in a broad way wayIn In the Kings Bench division before the Lord Chief Justice a libel action brought by Charles Larkin Davis against Messrs Weath erby publisher of the Calendar was dis ¬ missed with costs the plaintiff not pro ¬ ceeding with the case caseKings Kings Counsel Gill for the defendant said that the plaintiff alleged that he was libeled by having his name published in the forfeit list Messrs Weatherby were agents of the Jockey Club and it was their duty to report cases of default made to them by stakeholders when a man was in default The plaintiff had been in the for ¬ feit list for a period of fifteen years Re ¬ cently he brought this action against de ¬ fendants and there had been adjournments as defendants could not find documents ow ¬ ing to lapse of time timeAttorney Attorney Scanlan for the plaintiff in reply to his lordship said he agreed to the dis ¬ continuance of the action He took exception to a statement that the action was brought and persisted in with the hope that the documents would not be found Mr Gill asked that the action be dis ¬ missed missedHis His Lordship The result will be that there will be judgment for the defendants with costs
