AFTERMATH OF THE DERBY DERBYFred Fred Burlew held a real reception in the Jamaica paddock Monday afternoon and he told of just how Morvich won the Kentucky Derby He said that he had saddled many a winner but that he had never had the thrill that was his after Mr Blocks colt had won He said that the crowd swarmed out on the course until it was almost an hour before the colt could be led from the track The son of Runnymede cooled out nicely and It was decided to give him a days rest at Louisville before shipping him back He is due to arrive at Jamaica Tuesday The present stable plans are that Morvich will next be seen under colors in the running of the Dwyer Stakes at Aqueduct Follow ¬ ing that he will be raced in the Carlton Both are exclusively for threeyearolds threeyearoldsMorvich Morvich Is one of the best dispositioned thoroughbreds that ever won a Derby He galloped back to the stand and while more than a score of photographers and motion picture camera men fought to gain vantage points the great horse did not become ruf ¬ fled Cheering thousands within a few feet of him did no more than make the twelve time winner prick up his ears earsIn In the stewards stand during the running of the Derby were Senator Richard P Ernst Price McKinney A B Hancock Colonel Ales Vennie Maurice L Galvin Racing Commis ¬ sioner Ernest Pollard Robert T Hunter and Colonel Charles Morrow MorrowOfficials Officials of the City of Louisville were busy collecting the license fees from trainers and jockeys Jockey Ted Rice was one o the riders who came especially for the Derby He had to pay a license fee of 25 to the Racing Commission and 25 to the City of Louisville and it is not likely that he will ride another race in Kentucky this year yearGeneral General Manager Matt J Winn will start to work upon arranging a special race for Latonia if he finds that it will bring together the best in the country He desires to put on a race for Latonia that will attract as biff a crowd and arouso as much interest as the Derby did Saturday SaturdayThe The attendance at Churchill Downs Derby day was estimated at between 50000 and 70 000 All agreed that it was the largest crowd that ever witnessed the race raceMotor Motor transportation to the Derby was decidedly popular Louisville probably never before saw so many different state license tags as the almost countless automobiles arrived there from all sections of the country countryThe The majority of Chicagos big delegation to see Kentuckys famous race left Louisville Saturday night the others returning Sunday The general opinion expressed was that Chi ¬ cago should have racing and the American Derby be revived
