! NSW ORLEANS RACING SAFE NEW ORLEANS, La., July 5. It became apparent today that the efforts to kill racing in Louisiana by restrictive laws now before the legislature will fail. The legislature will adjourn for two years Thursday night and the only chance for passage of any of the anti-racing measures is by suspension of the rules. This requires a two-thirds vote and racing opponents cannot muster that strength, according to th best information available. The Tobin anti-handbook bill will de a natural death. Two more readings are necessary under the rules before it can be brought to a final vote in the senate and the time remaining is too short. The Butler anti-racing bill cannot be advanced to a third reading except by suspension of the rules. An attempt to suspend the rules will be made by racing opponents tonight. Governor Tarker has refused to answer queries as to whether he will call an extra, session of the Legislature, but from present indications it is thought likely that racing will be conducted next winter under the same laws as before.
