; : j i j OXNARD DISPERSAL SALE Entire Blue Ridge Stud of Virginia to Go Under Hammer at Saratoga. The most important dispersal held in this country in many years will take place during the closing days of the Saratoga meeting when, on August 28 and 20, the Fasi?-Tipton Company will offer at auction the entire stock of the Elue Ridge Stud, Upperville, Va., the property of the estate of the late Henry T. Oxnard. The stud includes five stallions, sixty-three brood marcs and thirty-two foals of 1922, and with the exception of about half a dor.en aged mares, whose days of usefulness have passed, the entire lot will parade before the auction block at Saratogas sale paddock. At the head of the stud is Vulcain.- Vul-cain was a sterling race horse in France. He raced only at three, starting six times, winning three, was third once and unplaced in the French Derby, in which he met with an accident that caused his retirement. He Is the sire of Thunderclap, Brother Batcn, Bunga Buck, Hephaistos, Fair Gain, Tom Hare Jr., Mulciber, The Wanderer, Lady Vulcain, etc. Being by Rock Sand, whoso blood is unquestionably the most popular of the day, dam Lady of the Vale, by Rayon dOr, and from the Lady Violet family, he is, without question, one of the most valuable young stallions on this continent. Other stallions are Superman, King James, winner of twenty-four races and 07,540, and sire of Spur, Lena Misha, My Dear and many others; Fayette, stake winner of S,-S45, j and a sire of winners, and the young stallion War Star, son of Sunstar and Verne, j by Bill of Portland. The band of brood mares includes many ; famous producers as well as young mares 1 of both English and American breeding. During 1 the last few years Mr. Oxnard purchased in England several young mares cf royal breeding and has continually added to the Blue Ridge Stud young mares that raced well and were bred in lines suited to mate with his stallions. The foals of 1922 are principally by Vulcain and Superman.
