T " 1 " AMERICAS MOST FAMOUS HEALTH AND RECREATION RESORT CROWDED WITH VISITORS TO SEE MONTH OF HIGH- CLASS RACING BETWEEN STARS OF THE TURF SARATOGA SPRINGS, N Y., July 31. Saratoga Springs has aroused from its usual peaceful quiet and the little city is thronged with turfmen from every part of the country. Many of the thoroughbreds have been here long enough to be thoroughly fitted over the ground that they are to strive for the laurels and monetary prizes that go to the winners of the rich and important stake features and overnight purses. The real exodus to the Spa did not begin until after the close of the racing at Yonkers Saturday. Many of the horsemen and followers of thoroughbreds motored up Sunday and more came in the same manner today. Then the John G. Cavanaugh Special reached this little city and the crowd was here. There are more visitors here this year than ever before and tonight it is certain that an immense concourse of people will see the sport inaugurated here tomorrow. Kentucky is exceedingly well represented and all of New York that loves a good horse is found along Broadway. Maryland and Virginia will strive for their share of the honors and Canada will have its representatives. Each year Saratoga has been the common meeting ground of ail sections of this country and this year, more than ever before, this promises to be the case. The Saratoga Racing Association has its picturesque and modern-appointed course looking its best with additional improvements completed and everything ready to play the part of host to the thousands of visitors from all parts of the country. For the inaugural days entertainment a program of rare excellence has been prepared with the historical Flash Stakes, Saratoga Handicap and the Shillelah Steeplechase as the outstanding attractions. With over a thousand horses here available for the racing it is not surprising that the fields for the opening day are exceptionally large and sparkle with the quality of their prospective contestants.
