BRIGHT LIGHTS, off forwardly. followed TRANSIENT under slight restraint in the early running and, taking the lead in the final eighth, was ridden out to withstand KIRKLEVINGTONS challenge. , The latter, oft" well, was shuffled back in the first eighth, but gained steadily through the stretch and was wearing the winner down at the end. TRANSIENT showed the most early speed, but tired in the stretch drive. EQUATOR finished resolutely. LIBERTY GIRL was hard ridden, but was unable to improve her position. ARNOLD B. ran fairly well. ARDS was close up for the first turn of the field, but fell lame at the eleventh jump and, dropping back, fell at the fifteenth jump, but was remounted and finished. DECISIVE lost his rider at both the fifteenth and seventeenth obstacles, hut also was remounted and finished. BELPHRIZONIA, off slowly, gained fast after going a quarter and, finishing fast and gamely, barely failed to get up. THREE SQUARE gradually improved her position, but was forced to race wide when entering the stretch and lost ground, then came again and outfinished DUCKS AND DRAKES. The latter closed up ground and. finishing fast, wa3 gaining at the end. BLACK MONKEY showed speed in the early running. GREAT LADY raced forwardly for a half mile. KAI-SANG was saved behind the leaders under restraint until in the final three-eighths, then moved up gradually on the outside until straightened out in the stretch, where he raced into a small lead and, under a masterly hand ride, maintained his advantage. BUNTING took the lead quickly and, setting ii good pace under slight restraint, saved ground on the turns and, responding resolutely to a call when challenged and passed, gained slGwly on the winner to the final fifty yards, when he began to tire. ROCKMINISTER, in closest pursuit of the leader in the early running, made a game effort after enter- 4 ing the stretch, but could not keep pace with the leadera in the final drive. , tfSflQ FIFTH RACE 1 Mile. LEGHORN had a clear course for the entire ! race and made a game finish, but could not withstand the winners challenge. CANYON set a fast pace, but was much used in racing THE PERUVIAN into defeat and tired badly. QUESADA was prominent in the early running, but tired and was in close quarters to the eighth post. CAROL, a forward contender throughout, also tired in the stretch drivo. PRINCE TII TII finished fast ard close up. HOBGOBLIN showed speed for a half and was cased up when beaten.
