CHURCHILL DOWNS9 FALL MEETING SUM OF 23,220 DISTRIBUTED DURING TEN DAYS OF RACING-- R R WHITNEY CAPTURES THE RICHEST PRIZE Autumn racing in Kentucky began this year earlier than has been the custom In the Blue Grass State, with Churchill Downs Louisville the first scene of operations. There were ten days of racing conducted from August 30 to September 9, during which timo seventy races were run and 23,220, a daily average of 2,322, distributed in stakes and purses. From a financial standpoint the meeting was not a success, but the racing itself was excellent and thoroughly enjoyed by those who braved the unseasonably warm weather that prevailed. j II. P. Whitney was indeed fortunate in sending Enchantment and Picketer to Louisville for the rich Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes last Saturday. As a result of that pair finishing first and second, respectively, in that valuable fixture their owners name appears at the head of the list of money-winning owners of the meeting, with 8,715 to his credit. Montfort Jones is next in order with 1,058, followed by F. J. Kelley with ,GG0. The owners who won 00 or more each follow: Owner. 1st. 2d. 3d. Ami. Whitney, II. r 2 1 1 8,715 Jones.
