ACTIVITY AT HAWTHORNE Work on the Track and Grandstand Progresses Horses Begin to Arrive. Much activity was in evidence at Hawthorne yesterday. Johnson Southard had a force of men working on the track proper, 1 which it is now expected will be ready for the horses to gallop over some time next week. Carpenters are at work on the grandstand i and there is a general bustle and hustle . everywhere that augurs well for the com- pletion cf the plant in plenty time for the i opening Saturday, September 30. i Four carloads of horses were reported to ! have arrived in Chicago yesterday, but had j not reached the track as yet. , Among the horses which have been on the j grounds for several days are H. Kiesels Ked Wingfield, Croupier and Teo Breckenridge, A. Gainards Old Broom and Rose of Pic- ardy, N. V. Burkharfs "Woolday and Smil- . ing Voter, and Earl Wrights Incognance.
