GREAT LDY. oft forwardly and saving ground on all the turns, set the early pace and held on gamely in the linal drive. CHILE was a forward contender from f tiie start and was hard ridden throughout. HOMHSTRKTCII began well, but dropped back in the first 1 eighth, then finished fast. SOPHIA GOLDMAN began slowly and raced wide for the entire race, but : a closed a gap. YANKEE STAR showed the most speed and, after setting a fast pace for a half mile, was taken back and reserved to the stretch, where he came on fast under a hard hand ride and outstayed PIRATK GOLD at the end. The latter, under slight restraint in the early running, came fast and gamely through the stretch, hut was forced out in the last eighth by the winner when swerving out. SCOTLAND YET forced a fast early pace and took the lead when entering the stretch, but tired in the stretch drive. BIT O BLACK raced prominently for three-quarters. Won easily; second and third driving. PA YELLE, after racing under restraint for the first half mile, moved up gradually on the inside and taking the lead at the eighth post, won going away. PIBROCH was a forward contender all the way ::ad was forced wide when entering the stretch, hut closed up gamely and outllnished CONSORT. CONSORT was much used in racing EAGER EYES into defeat and tired. SCOTTISH CHIEF acted sore when going to the past and was badly outpaced in the early running and only passed tired horses at the finish. The leg bandages on THORNIIEDGE and LACKAWANNA became loose in the final quarter, but both were beaten at the time. Scratched G4G59Transient. 101; G4S20 Daniel A., 109. THUNDERCLAP, best ridden, followed the leaders under slight restraint until well into the Stretch, then, under an energetic ride, raced into the lead and retained his advantage tenaciously when challenged. HEPHAISTOS, prominent from the start and on the inside, met with interference in the stretch and was forced back, but gained a clear course in the final eighth, but tired in the final fifty yards. BEST PAL displayed tine speed in the early running and raced into the lead, but did not respond when called on for a final effort. FRIGATE set a very fast puce and tired in the stretch. Won driving; second and third the same. TRAJANUS began slowly, but worked his way up steadily and, coming fast through the stretch, outfinished GUKLPH in the final drive. GUELPH raced in close pursuit of JOHN JOSEPH and, while gaining rapidly at the eighth post, met with interference, but finished gamely when clear and barely failed to get up. ROMULUS was cut off when he attempted to come through on the inside when entering the stretch, but easily passed JOnN JOSEPH when clear and was gaining on the two leaders in the final strides.
