HA WTH0RNE TURF NOTES AND OTHER NEWS ITEMS OF INTEREST Gene Bury of Covington, Ky., who has been connected with the racing staff here, has been engaged to assist W. Dondas at the coming Huntington, W. Va., meeting. The first shipment of horses to leave for Tijuana, Mexico, will be shipped from Hawthorne next Tuesday, October 17. Included in the carload will be the strings of the following owners : W. L. Stanfield, II. C. Keisel, J. Eekert and Early Wright The stables of C. B. and F. R. Irwin, as well as that of C. Irby, will also be shipped to the Mexican border course shortly after the close of the Hawthorne meeting. Col. C. E. Hawkins announced Tuesday afternoon that Bone Dry, the thoroughbred stallion presented to the U. S. Remount Service by the late Francis S. Peabody, will make his home during this winter and the next breeding season at the Hawthorne race track. B. H. Diener will act as government agent. It. is the aim of the remount service to make Chicago an important center for breeding and establish a branch chapter of the American Remount Association through the officers of the Illinois Jockey Club.
