TRYSTER IN TRIUMPH Victor in Pimlico Serial Weight- for-Age Race No. 1, Irish Kiss Shows Return to Best Form in Winning Stafford Handicap. 4 PIMLICO, Md., November 1. In a punishing finish the Westmont Stables Tryster, ridden by Lyke, was returned the winner of the Pimlico Serial Wcight-for-Age Race No. 1, which was offered as the feature attraction at Pimlico this afternoon and was a three-quarters dash. On Watch was second, while Careful was third. Best Pal and Mad Hatter, the other two starters, finished in that order. Scratches reduced the field. The race had an added value of ,500 and netted the Westmont Stable coffers the sum of ,350. There was but little delay at the barrier and the field left in good alignment. Butwell rushed Careful to the front and she displayed dazzling speed for the first half. Tryster and Best Pal raced along with her, while On Watch and Mad Hatter brought up the rear. There was but little change in the running positions through the back-stretch, but while rounding the last turn Tryster moved up menacingly on the outside of Careful, while Best Pal forced his way through next to the inner rail. When well settled in the final eighth, Tryster had headed Careful and On Watch was closing up with a fine burst of speed. Through the final eighth Tryster held to his task in resolute fashion, while Careful began to tire from her early effort and succumbed to On Watch in the final strides. The early pace was exceptionally fast, but diminished slightly toward the finish and the race was finished in 1:11. The result was a popular one with the crowd. TYPICAL AUTUMN DAT. It was a typical autumn day at Pimlico and, coupled with a well-arranged card, served to attract a crowd of generous proportions. Racing was of a spirited order throughout and the majority of the winners were forced to sustain severe drives to earn brackets. The Sunnyland Stables Irish Kiss, showing a return, to something like his best form, was the winner of the Stafford Handicap, the secondary feature of the dy, in a drive with Baby Grand, while Paul Jones was third. The winner was ridden by Marinelli arid worked his way up on the inside in the early running, but found an opening and came on the outside of Baby Grand at the eighth post and, finishing with a rush, got up in the final strides. Baby Grand tired slightly after heading the pacemaker, Paul Jones, but made a resolute finish. The race made a double for Marinelli. The race was marked by a claim in which A. L. Aste secured Al Boyd from the Allies Stable for ,350. DUNLIN BY A NOSE. The Druid Hall Park Purse, which attracted a high-class band of two-year-olds resulted in another nose finish, in which the winner was undecided until the official placing gave J. Cosdens Dunlin the verdict over S. Mc-Laughtons Little Celt, while the Quincy Stables Bluemont was third. The winner was ridden by jockey Kummer and, finishing with gameness, wore down the early pacemaker, Little Celt, in the final strides. Little Celt displayed a high order of early speed and readily drew away into a safe lead, pursued by Dunlin, with Bluemont in third position, some distance in advance of the others. Dunlins success completed a double for the J. S. Cosdcn stable, that establishment having previously scored with the jumper Gimme. A fall, which, fortunately, had no serious effect, came with the running of the third race, fashioned for platers at a mile and a sixteenth. Mizar fell when entering the stretch and The Roll Call fell over him. Neither horses nor riders were injured. Tho winner was P. S. P. Randolphs Ballot Mark which, under Sandes energetic riding, go up in the final strides to earn a nose verdict from South Breeze, an outsider. Moco was a bang-up third. Samuel Harris True flier accounted for the opening race at three-quarters from a large band of two-year-olds. Al Boyd was second, with Elizabeth Bean third. The winner, in contrast to her previous races in this locality, came from the rear and finished with a rush. Al Boyd, which was forced to work his way up on the outside, closed a big gap and outgamed the tiring Elizabeth Bean. Condition books for the coming meeting at Marlboro were distributed among the horsemen this afternoon. Steeplechase jockeys Pierce and Williams were discharged from the hospital this mora-ning pronounced physically fit, while Kieeger Continued ou twelfth i:ise.
