BELMONT STAKES CLOSING Prominent Westchester Association Features Close Nov. 21. Jockey lnb Cold Cnp to Be Kept Open Uatil .Inly Toboggan Handicap Value Is Raised to $,000 Added. The attention of horsemen everywhere is directed to the fact that many of the most valuable stakes of the Westchester Racing Association to bo run during 1924 and 1925 will clo-e on Tuesday, November 21. There s t . be no curtailment in their value. In the iLse of the Toboggan Handicap there is a substantial increase. Conspicuous among the off-rings are the great Ihree-year-old contests, for which Belmont Park has achieved distinction in the racing world. The Belmont Stakes, with 0,000 added, for 1925 for which weanling entries may now be made ; the Lawrence Realization of 1924 and 3 925. with ,500 added, for which foals and yearlings may now be named, and the Coaching Club American Oaks of 1924, with ,500 added, also call for yearling entries. The foal nominations will run a year earlier. GELDIM.S 1 N l.IGIBLE IN BKLMOJTT. That both the Belmont and the Lawrence Realization were arranged with a view to perpetuate the type is shown by the clause rendering geldings ineligible. The former, which is one of the outstanding three-year-old races of the spring, will be run at a mile and three -eighth! as usual, affording a conclusive test of the qualities of the best colts and fillies in training at that period. The Realization, which is at one mile and five-eighths, will have the same function in the autumn, while the Coaching ilub American Oaks will bring out the pick of the young fillies in a test equal to the Belmont, the distance being the same as in that race. Another jivlzo for three-year-olds to be decided in 192 1, is the historic Withers Stakes, at a mile. This rac has an added value of 5,0M, and the nominations, due on November 21, are for yearlings. It is a fitting preliminary for the Belmont. BREEDERS KEEN" FOR THESE RACES. No breeder in the United States can afford to overlook these races. A nomination to any of them is of the greatest value, whether the colt or ally is sold or retain d for racing in the home colors. It is such future contests as these that constitute the mainstay of the breeding industry. The featun a to he raced next year, which will lose at the same time as the three-year-old prizes, are ten in number. Those for three-year-olds and over are the Suburban Handicap, with ,509 added, at a mile and a quarter; the Metropolitan Handicap, with ,000 added, at one mile; the Toboggan Handicap, with ,000 added, at three-quarters mile, over the main course; the Ladies Handicap, with ,500 added, for mares, at one mile; the Harlem Selling Stakes, with ,000 added, aNo at a mile, and the HoHis Stakes, with ,000 added, at three-quarters, on the Riain course. For two-year-olds, now yearlings, there are four Stakes: The Juvenile, with ,000 added, at five-eighths mile straight; the Keene Memorial, with ,500 added, at five and a half furlongs, over the main course; the Fashion Stake, for hUi s, with ,500 added, at five-eighths miles straight, and the Bouquet Stakes, a selling race, with ,000 added, at five-eighths mile straight. The added value of the Toboggan was increased from ,000 to ,000. The Suburban, Metropolitan and Toboggan now constitute tit. of events that might to bring even.- good horse in training to the post. With such judgment the Westchester management has decided not to close its Jockey Club Gold Cup until next July, when owners will have u well-defined idea of the staying powers of the members of their stable. It will close the same time as a number of other important contests, and every effort will be made to secure a thoroughly representative list of entries.
