Of Epinard and his last race and quality the London Sportsman prints this: In Epinard, by Bayajos Epine Blanche, M. Pierre Wertheimer possesses the best two-year-old colt in training in France, for the manner in which he defeated Mine. Edmond Blancs Mackenzie in the Prix de la Foret at Longchamps on Sunday placed him undoubtedly at the head of his generation. There were only three runners and odds of 4 to 1 were laid on the winner, with 100 to 35 on Mackenzie. Baron Ed do. Rothschilds Zapanie was the outsider at 19 to 2. Mackenzie had the better of the start, but before the trio had gone a hundred meters Epinard assumed command. Making his own pace, he sopn held his rivals safe. Nearing the stands Hobbs called on Mackenzie for an effort. It was of no aviiil, as Haynes, who carried three pounds overweight, had but to keep his mount going to win hands down by a length. This was Epinards sixth consecutive victory, and his Avinnings amount to 5,000.
