TO SEEK HONORS ABROAD Chicago Turfman F J Kelley to toMake Make Nominations for Epsom EpsomDerby Derby of 1925 SAN FRANCISCO Cal January 13 Prank J Kelley of Chicago is preparing to branch out in his racing operations It is too late now for him to make nominations for the Kpsom Derby of 1924 but he plans to send over some for the 1925 running Sir Kelley has met with quite a measure of suc ¬ cess with Chatterton and other good horses horsesThe The Chicago business man is a director of the Pacific Coast Jockey Club and nearly every day he is at the Tanforan course watching his twoyearolds work out under the guidance of trainer C C Van Meter The closer Mr Kelley gets to the real work of preparation of thoroughbreds for racing the more interest he shows He is taking an active part in the launching of the Tan ¬ foran enterprise His increasing enthusiasm for the sport is demonstrated not only by the training of his string here not far from his San Jose home but for the enlarged scope of his racing activities in Kentucky and the contemplated invasion of England EnglandMr Mr Kelley purchased the Sunstar horse Paicines from A K Macomber several years ago and thinks highly of the sons and daugh ¬ ters of the imported horse Trainer Van Meter shares with his employer sanguine hopes as to the caliber of the youngsters The halfbrother to War Cloud is likely to send some highclass ones to the races racesThe The Kelley twoyearolds and those belong ¬ ing to J W Marchbank are developing fast in the mild weather prevailing here The rain has fallen mostly at night this month and as the track has not been affected much the youngsters have been galloped nearly every morning morningDown Down at the San Jose track of Mr Ma comber about thirty miles from Tanforan five twoyearolds belonging to the owner of the course and thirteen the property of Tlu dolph Spreckels are being given their pri ¬ mary education as racers Charles T Boots is in charge of the eighteen babies babiesOver Over at Pleasanton across the bay Bill Carroll is handling the twoyearolds of A B Spreckels A few of the Napa Stock Farm products were sold to Tijuana owners but the veteran trainer has more than a dozen still in his string
