REVIVE LOUISIANA DERBY Jefferson Parish Fair to Add 10 000 and Bun It on St Patricks PatricksDay Day March 17 NEW ORLEANS La January 13 Gen ¬ eral manager Anthony Rouprich of the Jef ¬ ferson Parish Fair Association last night made the annoucement that there would be a renewal of the Louisiana Derby March 17 at Jefferson Park ParkThe The race will be for threeyearolds at one mile and an eighth and will have an added value of 10000 just double what it was worth March 17 1920 when Harry Payne Whitneys colt Damask won it itBecause Because of there having been no spring meetings in 1321 and 1922 there were no Der bys but this year general manager Rouprich says the directors have authorized him to hang up the 510000 and thus attract into the race all of the best threeyearolds here hereThe The race will serve to reveal the best threeyearolds at New Orleans and such a threeyearold might be given consideration in the Kentucky Derby or Preakness Stakes StakesThe The Louisiana Derby will wind up the spring meeting of Jefferson Park which will come to a close Saturday March 17 St Pat ¬ ricks Day DayThe The spring meeting at Jefferson Park will open February 14 and continue for twenty eight days Manager Rouprich has been los ¬ ing no time at Jefferson and the track has been kept in perfect condition There are several stables still training there and tho workouts Indicate that tha uptown course is even faster than the Fair Grounds There will be several improvements in the plant manager Rouprich says and he is Icoking forward to a most successful meeting meetingIn In 1921 our spring meeting will DO much shorter manager Rouprich pointed out because the Fair Grounds will be in opera ¬ tion until February 25 in 1925 until February 17 and in 1026 it will be run until March 2 2For For some time we have been considering the abandonment of our fall meeting be ¬ cause of the tardiness of the winter visitors in arriving until after Christinas The De ¬ cember meetings have a hard time breaking even and if we stick to them we are going to go after it real big next year and schedule several 5000 stakes as well as introduce other changes calculated to raise the stand ¬ ard of the sport here
