FINCASTLE A BIG SURPRISE His Victory in Saturdays Havana Feature Entirely Unexpected Sea Prince and Brocklcsbj Fail Their Ad ¬ mirers Ostelic and Sun God Carry Williams Bros Colors to Fore HAVANA Cuba February 3 Fincastle racing for the first time under the colors of his new owner A S Eastman vho took the colt out of a selling race a few days ago furnished a big surprise in accounting for the Country Club Handicap the feature race of this afternoons offering at Oriental Park This contest was looked upon as a duel between Sea Prince and Brocklesby the latter going to the post favorite Brockles bys admirers were elated when he dashed into a big lead soon after the start while Sea Prince was away slowly last of the four starters startersT T Brothers who had the mount on Fin castle rods a welljudged race keeping the son of The Manager close up but under restraint until after rounding the last turn When called on Fincastle responded with a rush and passing Brocklesby entering the homestretch withstood a hard drive to out ¬ last Lucy Kate which finishing fast on the outside just failed to get up Not until it was too late did Sea Prince get into the rac ¬ ing picture and though he gained ground rapidly was a length back of the two leaders at the finish Brocklesby quit badly at the end endRacing Racing conditions were ideal and the usual large Saturday attendance turned out to wit ¬ ness the sport The first race was split in three divisions and brought out some of the poorest horses raced here this winter Watereo outclassed her oppcients in the j first taking the lead soon after the start and was under restraint at the finish where she led the favorite Marshal Tilghman by eight lengths lengthsIn In the second Mary Mallon made all the pace and staggered home in front of the threeyearold maiden Bantam The latter j was wearing down the winner and probably i would have beaten her in a few more strides stridesWilliams Williams Bros furnished the winner in the third in Ostelle which came from behind in the homestretch and won by two lengths in front of Bloomington The winner was a heavily supported favorite favoriteBcrretta Bcrretta tried to make a runaway of the fourth but at the end had to be ridden out to hold Lotta Speed safe The latter was a head in front of Courtier which finished in close quarters next to the inside rail railP P J Williams made it a double when Sun God came back after Ostelles victory and won the sixth race Sun God followed the pace until rounding the far turn where he moved up taking the lead at the top of the stretch but was tiring and had to be ridden out outAmong Among the new arrivals were E II Thomas the wellknown New Yorker who got in from Florida yesterday Mr Thomas is an enthusiastic lover of the thoroughbred Continued on twelfth i nzc FINCASTLE A BIG SURPRISE Contwied from first page He daysIncluded will remain for several days Included in the list of recently arrived American tourists who enjoyed the racing this afternoon were Mr and Mrs 13 C Klauber of Chicago Mr and Mrs Maurice Sachs of Louisville Ky Mr and Mrs J A King of Chicago Mr and Mrs W E Pease of Columbus Ohio Mr and Mrs John IL Manley of Providence R L Mr and Mrs L H Brown of Pittsburgh Pa J 10 Fitz patrick and J Moran of Kansas City Mo and Rev T AV Burke and Rev T F Ryan of ChicagoG Chicago G E Campbell the young turfman who recently purchased from AV F Knebelkamp the fouryearold Acosta and won with him the first time out added Piegan to his stable He secured him from Kenneth Kar rick tha representative of the W R Coe stable stableThe The Guayabal Stock Farm sold to G Denn ler the fiveyearold gelding Lt AAm J Murray MurrayPaddock Paddock judge AV W Lyles had recovered sufficiently to pay a visit to the track this afternoon and expects to resume his official duties next Tuesday TuesdayThe The following horses will not be permitted to start until the track veterinarian has passed upon their fitness to race Panaman Harold K Stonewall Prudential Max Gold and The Wag
