FRIDAYS USUAL CARD Jefferson Park Program Given Over to Inferior Racers Ghiva Wins the Days Feature FeatureRace Race From Fannie Bean Body Guard Wins Third NEW ORLEANS La March 9 J C Calms Chiva loomed up as a prospective dan serous contender for Louisiana Derby honors when he beat a band of fairly good horses starting in the mile and a sixteenth feature purse He was lucky and had to stand a hard drive to beat Fannie Bean The latter probably was best but her rider took her a wide course for the entire race She showed sudden improvement and finished fastest of all Had the race been at a longer distance she would have won Tan Son managed to outstay the others for third place placeChiva Chiva and Orcus were joint favorites at the opening1 but lack of support for Orcus caused his odds to recede at a rapid rate Pie raced as the betting barometer indi ¬ cated and was never a prominent contender contenderPerfect Perfect weather conditions contributed to bring out the large attendance on hand this afternoon The card was an ordinary offer ¬ ing designed to give the poorer grade of horses an opportunity and it resulted in big fields going to the post in most of the dashes These unwieldy fields were respon sible for a falling off in speculation and winners were again elusive Choices again were downed in a majority of the races racesGIVES GIVES WAY TO UODY GUARD GUARDThreeyearolds Threeyearolds were given an opportunity at a sprinting distance in the third race with Raffles installed the favorite but he suc ¬ cumbed to Body Guard which led through the last threeeighths by a large margin There was some question of his disqualifica ¬ tion as he seemingly bumped Peter Brown just before reaching the stretch but the stew ¬ ards evidently held him blameless for Peter Browns near fall and did not disturb tho placing Prince of Umbria finished in the rear of Body Guard and Raffles and closed a big gap in the stretch drive driveWillis Willis Sharpe Kilmers Sunayr opened pro ¬ ceedings by a victory and the defeat of Re ¬ ply favorite in the half mile for twoyear olds Sunayr was lucky in slipping through a small opening on the stretch turn when Copper Head ran out and this enabled her to save much ground and beat Reply home The latter was best but began slowly and had to close an immense gap Blue Monday landed in third place placeAn An outstanding upset came in the second race when Hillhouse after a Hard drive suc ¬ ceeded in outstaying Charles J Craigmile both being pressed closely by The Peruvian Orlova and Ogarite were the favored ones here but Ogarite stumbled badly at the start and Orlova failed to be much of a factor when the stretch racing began beganScourgeman Scourgeman was backed almost to the ex ¬ clusion of all the others in the fifth race but he ran a bad race and was beaten off all the way The purse fell to Primo in runaway style with the outsider Tex in second place and Repeater just managing to outstay Wylie for the shorter part of the purse I5OLSTKR ALWAYS OUTIIUX OUTIIUXThe The concluding dash also bringing the limit number to the post found the backers con ¬ fronted by a hard betting proposition But they finally centered on Adventure Execu cution and Bolster as the probable horses that would be fighting it out They were not far amiss for Execution landed the purse from the recent arrival from Havana Bla ¬ zonry with Adventure in third place Ad ¬ venture threatened to run away with the purse but began tiring after reaching the stretch Bolster was always outrun outrunWilliam William Snyder displaced William Ham ¬ ilton today as starter and will preside at the barrier for the remainder of the meet ¬ ing witli Hamilton serving as one of tho assistants Snyder had a hard task the fields being large in most of the dashes but he was equal to the occasion and his starting was uniformly good goodMode Mode Nicol who has been of late special ¬ izing in converting thoroughbreds for show ring purposes returned from Lexington this morning in quest of material He has sev ¬ eral horses under observation and will prob ¬ ably buy them themG G C Winfrey and J Salt contemplate de ¬ parture with their horses tomorrow for Bow ¬ ie where they will be rested until the open ¬ ing of the racing there thereAVilliam AVilliam A Pinkerton head of the Na ¬ tional Detective Agency was an arrival from California and will be here for a week be ¬ fore going on to Hot Springs Ark for a sojourn there thereGuvnor Guvnor came out of his race yesterday badly cut about the legs and will probably be rested until the opening of the Maryland
