Here and There on the Turf New Yorks Racing Cam ¬ paign paignFour Four More Days Than Last Year YearThoughtful Thoughtful Provision for Na ¬ tional Hunts HuntsSome Some Conflicts With Other Sections In awarding dates for the New York rac ¬ ing year the stewards of the Jockey Club so arranged the time that the United Hunts Racing Association is awarded two open days at ths beginning of the racing season That racing doubtless will take place at Belmont Park and will prove a delightful curtain raiser for what is to follow There was one racing day before the opening last year and making two for 1923 affords these horsemen the opportunity they deserve deserveIn In the allotment of racing time the West chester Racing Association and the Saratoga Association have exactly the same number of days as last year while one day is added to the Metropolitan Jockey Club Queens County Jockey Club and the Empire City As ¬ sociation over last year to bring their total to that of the Westchester Association These three additional days on the big circuit while the United Hunts enjoys two days instead of one brings the total of the year to four over that of 1922 1922Last Last year there wcs open time before the opening and after the close of the Saratoga meeting that was particularly convenient for shipping purposes This year there is ample time to ship the horses up to Saratoga but no off tune is granted for bringing them back The Empire City meeting comes to a close Saturday July 28 and it gives the horsemen Sunday Monday and Tuesday to move off to Saratoga the meeting opening there Wednes ¬ day August 1 1That That is an abundance of shipping time but the Saratoga meeting closes Friday August 31 and Behront Park ontns the next day Saturday September 1 These three days at the end of July are the only New York off days all through the racing year Last year the Empire City July meeting closed Satur ¬ day July 29 and Saratoga did not open until Tuesday August 2 This gave the horsemen Sunday and Monday in which to ship to Sara ¬ toga Then in the fall Saratoga clossd on Thursday August 31 and Bclmont Park did not open until Saturday September 2 making Friday an off day for shipping purposes This was an ideal arrangement of the time and one that met with the approval of all the horse ¬ men menOf Of course Saratoga will take its full quota of twentyseven days this year and race right up to Friday August 31 However there is I an equal division of the racing time for tha year and the schedule seems to be an exr cellcnt one oneIn In the matter of conflict with the Maryland racing there is no change Jamaica conflicts with Pimlico in the spring while in the fall both Aqueduct and Empire City have a con ¬ flict Aqueduct conflicts with Havre de Grace while Empire City and the racing at Laurel go on at the same time timeThis This year Saratoga will have Kentucky conflict for the first tune and it may kesp some of the western horses from coming on for tho meeting but it is usual that all the big establishments come East for the month of August and it is not expected that tho new Kentucky racing ventures will make any ma ¬ terial difference to the racing at the Spa SpaMany Many of the horsemen aside from being at ¬ tracted by the prizes that are offered by the Saratoga Association look upon lie montj of August as more or less of a holiday season and they would not miss that trip while each year the yearling sales attract a vast number of owners and breeders breedersThere There are horses enough and patrons enough for both and the Kentucky racing can cut no figure in Saratoga patronage while Saratoga will cut no figure with the Kentucky racing
