RACING OVER MUDDY TRACK Edna D Springs a Surprise in Mobiles Feature Jockey Smallwood Draws Punishment from fromtlie tlie Track for His Hide on Amaxc Tosic M Easily MOBILE Ala March 20 Out of ths race for the Hotel Purse feature of Thursdays racing at the Fair Grounds came a victory for the longestpriced winner of the meeting also the withdrawal of riding privileges here from jockey J Smallwood who rode Amaze in the race Edna D was the longestpriced horse in the race paying 30 to 1 at the open ¬ ing but backed to 15 to 1 Gypsy Light fin ¬ ished second and Marse Jimmy in third place Execution upon which backing was concen ¬ trated with rare confidence began fast and soon had a lead of a length over Edna p with Martin holding the gelding under re ¬ straint Amaze meanwhile was being ridden wide on the turns by Smallwood When be ¬ ginning the second rush through the back stretch Execution quit all over and apparent ly was dead short Edna D raced to the front at the same time and was not seriously threatened afterward Execution dropped rearward rapidly after beginning to tire In addition to riding wide with Amaze Small wood did not persevere with the horse in the final eighth eighthJudge Judge Murphy ordered his badge to be taken up immediately after the decision of the race and announced that the boy is an undesirable here although no ruling off or suspension has been made against him himExtremely Extremely heavy going faced the starters in the days races and fast going in the re ¬ maining days of the meeting is an impos ¬ sibility Xiight showers fell intermittently in the course of the afternoon afternoonJosie Josie M met a mediocre band in the first race and earned victuals for B Rosenthals stable Lawn Mower was two lengths behind with the favorite AValespa third another two lengths away awayHutchison Hutchison an oddson choice won the sec ¬ ond race at about six and a half furlongs after a mild stretch drive with Sea Board and Ailliro AilliroTAVO TAVO FOIl C 31 ANDERSON ANDERSONC C R Anderson saddled his second winner of the day when he sent C C AVrights A X Akin to the post in the third race The old gelding displayed his customary facility in such going and raced in close pursuit of Royal Dick the favorite for a half mile While going up the backstrctch for the sec ¬ ond time Bolton sent A X Akin to the front with a rush and he rapidly gained a decisive lead winning by tlree lengths from Search Light III which beat Royal Dick five lengths for second place Royal Dick bled and did well to finish third thirdII II L Smith represented by Marjorie Wood in the third race claimed Royal Dick from W M Cain for 100 100R R Holloway carried off the riding honors of the day by winning with Edna D and Machiavclli MachiavclliA A 1C Millers Machiavclli showed a fleet set of heels to his opponents in the fifth race and won by a length hard held from King ling II The latter beat Wireless a half length for second place placeArdito Ardito the public choice accounted for the last race in an easy manner winning by five lengths from Brown Bill which took second place by two lengths from Grandee GrandeeL L T Bauer departed Wednesday night for Baltimore where he will race his horses dur ¬ ing the Maryland spring campaign campaignFour Four horses were sold at public auction in the paddock previous to the running of the first race Those disposed of were Herald 1000 W L Potter Harvest King 725 A D Shaunessy Harvey Smarr 80 J Reyn ¬ olds Firefly 75 W Bryan
