LATEST LOUISVILLE GOSSIP Lord Granite Goes Three Quarters Quartersin in 117 Madden D erby erbyEligibles Eligibles Work a Mile LOUISVILLE Ky March 29 Trainers of Derby eligibles were active with their charges at Churchill Downs this morning Lord Granite owned by J H Louchheim of Philadelphia and trained by J S Ownbey showed about the fastest gallop to date of the Derby candidates which have wintered at the Downs The son of Granite ran three quarters in 117 the first half in 50 Lord Granite is an upstanding colt and is bred on the lines of a stayer being by Granite from the Broomstick mare Dolly Devonshire He won a couple of races last year in eight starts his last being a winning one That he is held highly by his stable connection is evident from the fact that commissions on him have cut the future book price of Lord Granite from 100 to 50 to 1 1John John E Maddens Derby eligibles were for the first time asked to go faster than a canter Flintstonc Dozer and Sandy Hatch were worked together a mile in 1 IS the threequarters in 1 20 All pulled up in good condition Mac Lir another Derby entry in the Madden barn was worked a mile in 1 49 with Shadow Lawn and Heremon older horses as companions companionsAlice Alice Blue Gown Chittagong and Flowers of Love the Keene Brothers Derby eligibles were given useful gallops Alice Blue Gown went fiveeighths with Miss Muffins in 107 Chittagong and Flowers of Love worked to ¬ gether threequarters in 1 20 20Al Al Kirby sent Red Arrow and Donegal a half in 52 The former worked the more impressively of the pair He belongs to trainer Kirby and Donegal is the only rep ¬ resentative Jefferson Livingston has in the Derby He is of the first crop of the get of Royal II Latonia Derby winner now owned jointly by Livingston and Rome Respess RespessC C H Pat Knebelkamp arrived here to ¬ day from New Orleans He brought with him his new apprentice jockey E Corcoran brother of Johnny Corcoran who proved the sensation of the New Orleans meetings last winter He has a fiveyear contract on the boy boyTex Tex Foreman is another arrival from Xew Orleans OrleansJockey Jockey Newton Barrett got in today from New York He will put in some time tram ing before he will be able to make weight weightJohn John Lowe P J Williams and trainer Finnegan with the W F Knebelkamp horses arrived from Key West Fhu The horses that they raced in Cuba during the winter came on the same train These will be joined with the horses that were wintered here
