HAWTHORNE OPENS JUNE 30 C W Hay to Be Presiding Stew ¬ ard Judge Barasa and M N Macfarlan to Be Officials Associated with judge Bernard P Barasa and Malcolm N Macfarlan in the steward ¬ ship of racing at Hawthorn race track when that plant reopens Saturday June 30 for twentylive days will be C W Hay horse ¬ man business man and Kentucky gentle ¬ man Judge Hay comes from Churchill Downs at Louisville and is presiding stew ¬ ard at Latonia LatoniaJudge Judge Barasa needs no introduction to fol ¬ lowers of Chicago sporting affairs Those who can recall the memorable days at Wash ¬ ington Park will readily recall judge Mac ¬ farlan who served as one of the stewards at the last American Derby run in Chicago at the historical south side race course courseThe The other officials include Fred W Ger hardy racing secretary who arranged the Hawthorne program last year but who was unable to serve during the meeting because of an engagement at Maple Heights HeightsJohn John Carey whose efforts last year added greatly to the successful revival of racing will return as paddock judge and clerk of the scales scalesJames James Milton now serving as starter at Havana has tentatively accepted the position of starter with William N Murray as assist ¬ ant Mr Murray is the inventor of the stall starter which will be introduced dur ¬ ing the Hawthorne meeting Thomas Brown has been engaged also as assistant starter
