PLEASED WITH ASPIRATION Benjamin Block to Start Him and andBetter Better Luck in Derby Mor Morvich vich to Race at Saratoga LEXINGTON Ky March 30 After an early breakfast with John E Madden at Hamburg Place Benjamin Block and his party motored to the Kentucky Association course where they met by appointment Col ¬ onel Phil T Chinn and trainer Jack Baker Aspiration the son of George Smith and In ¬ spiration for which Mr Block paid 27000 last week at the Hewitt dispersal sale wear ¬ ing a brandnew saddle and bridle was led out of his stall for the first inspection of his owner Then the colt was mounted by an exercise boy and taken out on the track for a gallop at a slow pace After his gallop Aspiration was stripped and Block looked him over critically as he was being rubbed down downI I like the colt very much said he and I desire to thank you Colonel he continued as he turned toward Chinn for having in ¬ formed me of his qualities and for having arranged his purchase and training for me He then turned to trainer Baker and said We may not win the Kentucky Derby with this colt but he looks like a horse that will win races and if he does I shall be well pleasedl I want you to point this colt for the Kentucky Derby and I want him to start in it if he is ready on May 19 but I do not want you to hurry his preparation to such an extent that he may be knocked out afterward I have another Derby candidate in Better Luck and it may be that I will have two starters for that race at Churchill Downs on May 19 It may be that we will want to run Better Luck in the Preakness and also in the Kentucky Derby At any rate we are going to have a lot of pleasure by way of anticipation whether we win the big stakes this year or not notFrom From the Kentucky Association track the party motored to Hay lands Stud to see Mor vich the son of Runnymede and Himyar which last year carried the jade and orange blocks of his owner to victory in the Ken ¬ tucky Derby Morvich was found in excel ¬ lent condition and Mr Block expects to race him at Saratoga SaratogaLeaving Leaving Haylands Colonel Chinn escorted his guests to his new place Old Hickory and from there to Harry Payne Whitneys splendid farm thence to Joseph E Wideners Elmendorf next to Green Hills lately pur ¬ chased by Joseph and George D AVidener then by Senator Joseph W Baileys Donegal Continued on tlilnl page PLEASED WITH ASPIRATION ASPIRATIONContinued Continued from first page Farm and to Hinata which the Texas states ¬ man has under lease then past Short Grass Stud and to Himyar Stud where they saw some of the yearlings that are to go to market at Saratoga next August running in big fields with fat cattle cattleEy Ey invitation J C ililam joined the party at luncheon and during the meal Bloclc bought from him the twoyearold brown colt by Sweep Orilia by Lochryan and ar ¬ ranged with Milam to keep him in his stable and train him The price was kept private After he had made the purchase Block an ¬ nounced that he would claim the name Peter baloney in honor of his brokerage business partner Block bought this colt as he did Aspiration without looking him over he not having seen him since the night last August at Saratoga he was sold to Jlilam at S600 out of the Himyar Studs consignment consignmentBefore Before taking a train for Cincinnati whence he will leave for New York Block appointed Chinn to be his authorized agent and it was agreed that Aspiration is to have two races at the Lexington spring meeting as a part of his preparation for the Kentucky Derby
