NO DERBY ROUTE GALLOPS Track Conditions at Churchill Downs Sunday Prevent Eligibles Going Full Distance. LOtISVILLE. Ky., April 30.— Track conditions prevented Prince K. from attempting to work over the mile and a quarter Derby route Sunday. The course was sloppy, but had quite a firm bottom. Prince K. did go a mile and an eighth, the last eighth hard held, in creditable time. He worked witli Deadlock for the first three-quarters, where the son of Sir Wilfred stopped. The timers caught Prince K. the first eighth in i1%, quarter. 36; half, 49; five-eighths, 1:02; three-quarters, 1:15%; seven-eighths, 1:29%; mile. 1:44; male and an eighth, 1:59. Work watchers agreed that the trial was excellent. The colt pulled up sound and but little winded. In Memoriam went the same distance in nearly the same time. Trainer land said he would only send the son of MeGee out for useful work and no attempt wouk. be made to break any records, which would have been impossible over the muddy track. In Memoriam worked alone and went the first eighth in 12%, quarter in 24%, three-eighths in 36%, half in 50, three-quarters in 1 :17%, mile in 1 :44% and mile and an eighth in 1 :59%. Sun Fey and Sun Thistle, the W. S. KiU-mer Oaks candidates, galloped five-eighths in 1:08%. Dozer, from the John E. Madden Stable, went a mile, first quarter in 28, half in 56, three-quarters in 1 :24% and mile 1 :54. Mac Lir, from the same stable, worked the first half in 52%, three-quarters in 1 :19% and mile in 1 :49%. Trainer Van Meter worked Skeezix five-eighths in 1 :05. Firebrand showed a good three-quarters, going the first quarter in 24%. half in 50% and three-quarters in 1 :17. Buster, from the same stable, went five-eighths in 1 :02 V,. Cherry Tree was given a slow five-eighths in 1 :09%. Dr. Clark worked three-quarters in 1 :20%. Chatterton showed impressive work. This good horse is improving. He worked a mile, the first quarter in 25%, half in 51%, three-quarters in 1 :1S% and mile in 1:47%. United Verde worked a mile in about the same notch as Chatterton. He was timed the first quarter in 24, half in 52%, three-quarters in 1 :20% and mile in 1 :47%. Whiskaway and Tom Hare Jr. galloped a mile at about a two-minute clip. Trainers and jockeys who returned from Lexington to spend Sunday were favorably impressed with the showing of Anna M. Humphrey in the Ashland Oaks, which she won easily with her Derby weight up. Donges, the Ward Derby candidate, did not impress the critics when he could do no better than finish third in the opening dash.
