LATEST LEXINGTON GOSSIP J. Howard Has Charge of Several Miscellaneously Owned Horses Special Train to Latonia. LEXINGTON, Ky., Oct 29. Herbert P. Gardner of Amsterdam, N. Y., arrived here today to spend a portion of the week seeing his thoroughbreds. In addition to his breeding stock he has the two-year-old T. S. Jordan and three yearlings in charge of Jack Howard, the widely known jockey-trainer, and the mare Ten Sixty, which Jack Baker will turn over to Howard at the close of the racing season. In addition to the Gardner horses Howard is training fiv yearlings, the property of Major Thomas C. licDowell, the list being as follows : Property of T. C. McDowell: Bay colt, by The Manager Ancient; chestnut colt, by The Manager Star Jasmine ; brown filly, by Sir Martin Waterblossom ; chestnut filly, by The Manager Caution ; brown filly, By Manager Waite Kings Daughter. Property of Herbert P. Gardner : Bay colt, by The Manager Fleeting Fashion ; brown colt, by North Star III. Brown Bess ; bay filly, by North Star III. Miss Waters. About February 1 Howard will take up the following that now are running out at Major McDowells Ashland Stud : Magic Wand, br. c, 2, by Peter Pan Waterblossom ; Watchful, b. c, 2, by The Manager Caution ; Pleasing, b. f, 2, by Sweep Olive Wood ; Pleasure, ch. f, 3, by Manager Waite Delighting. George Starr, who began his turf career as a rider in steeplechase races and then became celebrated internationally as a trainer and driver of trotters, has returned to the running turf as a trainer. He has opened a stable at the Kentucky Association course and is handling several yearlings the property of Charles W. Leonard and others. Officials of the Louisville and Nashville Railroad Company here today announced that a special train of coaches and Pullmans will be run from Lexington direct to the Latonia race track next Saturday that persons here may -witness the running of the Latonia Championship Stakes. The train will leave here at 9 :15 in the morning and will leave Latonia after the last race. i
