TANFORANS OPENING CARD Racing Secretary R. P. Leighton Announces Program in Inauguration of Sport on Nov. 3. SAN FRANCISCO, Cal., Oct. 29. Racing secretary Robt. F. Leighton today announced the first weeks program of races for the Tan-foran meeting, which opens next Saturday. Outside of the Inaugural Handicap on opening day, which attracted 42 nominations, and the Debutante Stakes the following Wednesday, all the contests are overnight races. Horsemen are naturally interested in the distances of the races, the conditions and other features so that they can determine on where they will place their gallopers. Horse lovers can be assured of big fields as there will assuredly be close to four hundred horses at the track by the end of the week. The Pacific Coast Jockey Club is trying out the new idea of naming every race after some place in California. For the first day, Sacramento, Santa Rosa, Oakland, San Bruno and San Mateo all famous for producing great race horses will be honored by having the purses named after them. The card will start off with a five-eighths dash that will introduce a bit of speed right off the reel. Then there will follow two other sprinting races of 5 and C furlongs. The Inaugural Handicap is scheduled for a mile and a sixteenth. The fifth race is for 5JA furlongs and the card will close with a mile and seventy yard dash. After the first week racing secretary Leigh-ton will get a good line on the thoroughbreds so that the weekly program will be variegated and attractive. Three special handicap races are carded for Continued jd sixteenth page. TANFORANS OPENING CARD Continued from first page. the first week in addition to the stakes and over-night entry events.
