IN MEMORIAM VERSUS ZEV S. C. Hildreth Willing to Bring Zev for Mateh Race. Offers to Race Rancocas Star Against Kentucky Champion for 5,000 or More as a Side Ret. LOUISVILLE, Ky., Nov. 9. An echo of the recent Latonia Championship Stakes, in which In Memoriam triumphed decisively over Zev and My Own came this afternoon in the following message from trainer Sam C. Hildreth, sent from Pimlico, Md. : "M. J. Winn, Louisville, Ky. It is reported here that Mr. Wiedemann wishes to match In Memoriam against any horse in the world at a mile or over. I am willing to come to Kentucky next Friday or Saturday and run Zev at a mile or a mile and an eighth for 5,000 a corner, or as high as he wishes, you to add as much as you wish. Answer. Signed S. C. Hildreth." Manager Matt J. Winn of the Kentucky Jockey Club succeeded in getting in touch with Mr. Wiedemann by long distance phone and the latter stated he would be at the track tomorrow and in company with trainer Gilmore would discuss with Mr. Winn trainer Hildreths proposition. After getting word from Mr. Wiedemann Mr. Winn sent the following telegram to Mr. Hildreth at the Pimlico track: Continued on twelfth page. , IN MEMORIAM VERSUS ZEV Continued from first rage. "Your interesting telegram received. Have an engagement to talk to Mr. Wiedemann on long distance phone tonight. He is at his home in Newport, Ky., but will bo here tomorrow morning. Trainer Gilmore is willing to race In Memoriam against Zev at one and one-eighth miles. Track must be good. Would like to talk to you on phone tonight." Before the running of the Latonia Championship Mr. Wiedemann issued a sweeping defy to Zev and My Own and on that occasion offered to wager 0,000 that his. colt could beat either. His challenge at that time seemed amiss, but in view of In Memoriams sterling victory over his pair of rivals Mr. Wiedemann had ample justification for his challenge. Those who witnessed the great Latonia Championship Stakes were almost unanimous that In Memoriam was superior to his outstanding rivals on that day. Some of the critics held to the belief that In Memoriam could have taken the lead from Zev at any stage of the journey. Garner had him under sharp restraint in Zevs wake until he passed him. The Latonia Championship Stakes was over the mile and three-quarters distance and there are claimants that In Memoriam will .perform to better advantagp at the shorter distance. In view of Mr. Wiedemanns former offer to bet 0,000 that In Memoriam can beat Zev there does not seem to be any danger of a hitch on the monetary consideration. In Memoriam was given a good canter between races this afternoon preliminary to his start tomorrow in the mile and a sixteenth handicap, in which he is conceding big chunks of weight to the others entered. It is probable that in the event a meeting of the pair is consummated the race will be run on the closing day of the meeting, next Saturday, when the rich Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes is also a fixture for decision. It would be a glorious windup to a remarkable racing season for Kentucky.
