i ; ; 1 FAIR GROUNDS NOTES Charley G. Ross was granted a jockeys license by the stewards today. Dan Boiling, Rep and Good Time have been placed on the schooling list by starter Hamilton. IT. E. Brown has purchased from IT. S. Powell, on private terms, the nine-year-old plater Tanlac. Sixty-nine horses were excluded from tho card for Saturday, forty-five coming out of the second race. Ex-jockey W. Manders, who recently brought the four-year-old Mr. X. from Culver City to the Fair Grounds, has shipped the horse to Springfield, 111. The rehearing granted jockey D. Mergler, suspended for five days for rough riding, failed to result in the modification of the penalty. What is regarded as the best Saturday program of the meeting has been arranged for tomorrow by racing secretary McLennan, the Comus Handicap serving as the feature. Stake blanks for the Lexington meeting were received, today. Among the fixtures to be run are the Tobacco Stakes, Ashland Oaks, Blue Grass Stakes and Camden Handicap. Each of the stakes carries an added value of ?3,000. Blanks for the Kentucky Jockey Club stake events to be run during the spring meetings, and which are to close February 23, were received this morning and promptly sought after and distributed to owners and trainers in these parts. Thomas Young, manager of the Coldstream Stock Farm in Kentucky, who has just returned from England where- he purchased some selected mares which recently arrived at the farm, was an arrival Friday for a short visit , Wheaton, the colt which sold recently at a high price, will measure strides with Barney Google, also a high-priced racer, in the juvenile dash Saturday. Barney Google ha3 drawn No L post position, while Wheaton, carrying 124 pounds, will start from No. 10 position. Racing secretary McLennan distributed thp fourth edition of the program book among horsemen today. The book runs from February 4 to 9 inclusive and the feature attraction to be decided is the Espanade Handicap, one mile, for three-year-olds and over, the nominations for which close on Saturday.
