DEBADOU REWARDS BACKERS Makes Good in Main Race at Havana Riposta Also Scores and Regal Lodge Fails Dismally. HAVANA, Cuba, Feb. 1 Friday afternoons program at Oriental Park was built around two races at one mile and seventy yards, run as the fourth and fifth, with a two-year-old dash for maidens as the opener. In the fourth Debadou was the public choice and he made good in a well-contested race. It was Zapatos that set the pace to the stretch, where Miss Liberty took the lead, only to give away when Debadou challenged. The latter was kept under restraint during the early racing, went around the leaders with a rush entering the stretch and was soon in front. The race was not over, however, as Hercules had to be taken care of. He finished with great speed, but swerved over to the inside at the end and lost whatever chance he may have had. In the opener the E. F. Whitney silks were carried to victory when Tea Fight, a daughter of Tea Caddy Pazza, by Cherry King, was home first with her stable companion The Creole finishing third and Rosita separating the pair. The latter showed the most early speed, but tired near the end and gave way to the fast-closing rush of Tea Fight. Old Riposta was not to be denied today. She was equal favorite with in or Quit in the third race and the finish found the first mentioned in front and the latter absolutely last. Riposta -was away quickly and, taking the lead, maintained her advantage throughout, successfully resisting the best efforts of Edna D. to overtake her. The other mile and seventy yards race furnished an upset in the defeat of Regal Lodge, he finishing second to Old Rose, which led all the way, never seriously menaced. The second race provided another surprise in the victory of Jealous Woman, the extreme outsider in a betting way, which beat The Girl by a nose after a terrific last eighth duel, the result being in doubt until the last stride.
