SENSIBLE ENGLISH OPINION Writer in London Sporting Life Admits that American Race Horses Possess Quality. Discussing the result of the Zev-Papyrus match in tho London Sporting Life, E. M. said ho had no doubt whatever that Zev, 1 was a. high-class colt, but he .had so much in his favor when he defeated Papyrus that! it would be absurd to accept his victory as conclusive evidence of his superiority. He then continued : "That American race horses are steadily improving in class and quality may be taken for granted. It would be a bad lookout, from our point of view, if they were not. American breeders who have spent so much money over here in the purchase of stallions and brood mares have all along had that improvement as their definite aim. "I have never sided with those of our authorities who persistently pour scorn on tho American thoroughbred. There are great I and successful families over there, just as l there are here, and to deny it is sheer fool- , ishness and bad business, because it creates bad feeling." I
