PROBABLE LINCOLN FIELD i ! .Vigilant s List of Likely Starters in First English Stake Race. Favors Sir Gallahad III., the rnbllc Choice, and Evander Donoghue to Have the Mount on Westmead. I The following gossip and list of probable , starters in the Lincolnshire Handicap, which I is-to be run next Wednesday, was written by Vigilant for the London Sportsman of March 11: j One short fortnight will bring us to the eve of the Lincoln Handicap and fiat racing ! will once more be in full swing. Little of Importance has developed since I last wrote about the big race, though satisfactory ac- counts continue to reach me concerning the I favorites well-being, while other thoroughly genuine candidates are Evander, Soval. West-mead, Poetaster, Dinkie, Old, Nic and Grave Fairy. Batho, too, is certain to be dangerous with either Jarvie or Morestel, and though most people appear to be satisfied that Morestel is the pea I am by no means convinced that this J will be so. On the Liverpool running the pair are handicapped to a nicety, but on form last season thero is no doubt that Jarvie has the belter credentials. TKOBABLE STARTERS. Although some changes may have to be made from time to time the following can be taken as a fairly accurate list of the probable starters and jockeys: Mrs. A. Stobarts Swinderby, blk. c, 4, by Swynford Pintado; S4 pounds; D. Morris. Doubtful runners. Sir Gallahad III. continues to please in a thorough preparation, and one well acquainted with the colt, for whose opinion I havo the utmost respect, tells me that jprovided he is reasonably well away from the gate the race is a good thing for the Frenchman. The colt is firm in the market, but the fact that Donoghue is to ride Westmead will! doubtless cause many to throw in their lot with this northern candidate, although, to jny mind, he is not reliable, and on his running in the race last year has nothing in Iiand of Soval, which cannot be said to possess an outstanding chance. Old Nic, "which at any rate, will lack nothing on the score of fitness, is genuinely fancied, and should account for all the bottom division, but whether a boy will be able to extract the best from Regals shapely son is open to doubt. My present opinion is that the race will fall to Sir Gallahad III. or Evander, while others that interest me at the moment are Campbell Kid, Old Nic and Soval. .
