In spite of the ordinary racing program, most of the races resulted in close finishes after exciting struggles between the stretch contenders. In several instances there might have been reversals of the placing had better riding skill been displayed. The crowd was exceptionally large for a Tuesday. The most interest was centered in the third race, which was for Canadian-foaled three-year-olds and over. This was a dash at five and a half-furlongs and jockey J. Wallace scored his second win of the afternoon when he piloted the Cedar Crest Farms Caledon to an easy victory over Puff Ball and Speedy Girl. The winner dominated the running from the start and after drawing away into an easy lead saved ground on the turn and won by two and a half lengths. Speedy Girl began slowly, but moved up rapidly on the outside of the leaders, but when Stirling attempted to come through on the inside he was forced to take her up. While rounding the stretch turn Speedy Girl closed up again, but her early exhaustive efforts told on her and she tired in the final eighth. LONG PRICED WINNER. Long shot backers were in their glory when Wrack Ray, paying the handsome dividend of 1.05 for each mutuel ticket, galloped home an easy winner of the sixth race, at one mile and a sixteenth. Trajanus finished j second and third money fell to Van Patrick. | The winner took the lead shortly after the start and won all the way, leading Trajanus home by a length and a half. Wallace scored his fourth victory of the Afternoon when he guided the Hamilton Stables Hickory home first in the last of the days races. Hickory won going away | by three-quarters of a length, while High j Gear just lasted to outstay the fast-coming] | Scraps for second place. Jockey J. Wallace won the riding honors of the day, having fcur winners to his credit, ! j ! Mariner, who was astride Care Free, rushed his mount to the front into what seemed a safe lead. Vacuum raced along with him and after turning for home he had the Alexandra gelding beaten and after a brief duel won going away. The closest finish of the afternoon came with the running of the fifth race at one i | mile, when Lunetta won by a nose from Julia M. The latter came again near the finish and beat the early pacemaker, Run-ningwild, by a neck for second place. The opening race for maiden two-year-olds at five and a half furlongs enabled Sea Fairy, from the A. C. Bostwick Stable, to graduate from the maiden ranks when she j beat Effort and Royal Pearl in a driving finish. Effort set a fast early pace, but tired I badly in the stretch, although Walls rode her OOt sharply to the finish. Royal Iearl was made too much use of in the early stages and had nothing left when challenged in the j stretch. Jockey J. Wallace piloted A. J. Sansones , Sangrado to victory in the second race at ! five and a half furlongs. Plow Steel finished second and Kellys Queen third. There was little time lost at the barrier in this race. Kellys Queen showed the most speed and j raced to the front at once, closely followed by Sangrado. The latter was racing on the ; inside. Kellys Queen was first to drop back I and while rounding the stretch turn Wallace took the lead with Sangrado. The latter then never left the result in doubt, although Wal- ! lace kept riding him hard to the end. Plow Steel took second place by three lengths from Kellys Queen.
